Welcome to another edition of The Humber Spotlight. This week, I am reflecting on a successful Innovation Zero Congress, where I was delighted to have had the opportunity to share more about Air Product's decarbonisation projects with visitors to the Humber Pavilion.
The Humber region is a place of incredible support for the low carbon economy. Nowhere is this more evident than in the plans for a green hydrogen production facility at Immingham on the south-west bank of the Humber Estuary, a collaboration between Air Products and Associated British Ports.
As a company, Air Products has been supplying hydrogen to industries around the world for over 60 years. We want to use our expertise to collaborate with regional partners and advance hydrogen development right here in the Humber.
The facility in Immingham would, if approved, create up to 1,400 jobs and support skills transfer in the region. From an energy generation perspective, it would provide industry and transportation markets across the UK with 300MW of low carbon H2, resulting in over 580,000 tonnes per year of avoided CO2 emissions or the equivalent of taking 20,000 HGVs off UK roads.
I’m hugely excited by the potential for hydrogen to lead the way in the transition to a low carbon world. Hydrogen development at scale is not just possible, but happening right now. We want to see the hydrogen facility at Immingham become a reality and be recognised for what it is – a leading example of the power of innovation, investment and regional leadership to deliver the low carbon future the world needs.
