As a Founding partner, I felt incredibly proud and honoured to have been invited back to join the 30 Years celebration for Bondholders last week. I don’t think anyone could have imagined back in 1994 how the organisation would grow from its early objective of enhancing the image of Hull to one where it now represents the whole of the Humber Region. Reflecting on our remarkable journey, the Bondholder scheme stands out as a key success, uniting public and private sectors to tackle common challenges. This true partnership has been instrumental in our progress, culminating in very real achievements like the City of Culture, which would not have been possible without our strong collaborative foundation. Teamwork has always been at the heart of our efforts. Many dedicated individuals—Bondholders, Board members, talented Chairs, employees, councils, and funding bodies—have contributed to our evolution and success. One key lesson is that changing perceptions is difficult, but vital. Success often requires taking risks and standing up for what’s right, even if it’s unpopular. Active involvement, like we see in Bondholders, is crucial. It’s about leading when you have influence, which benefits the region, businesses, and personal growth. Our work is ongoing, as cities and regions must continuously compete for investment on a regional, national, and global scale. I am confident that our Bondholders will continue to thrive and drive the regional powerhouse to success, benefiting both businesses and society. We deserve it and can achieve it. Here’s to the next 30 years of Bondholders and to the Humber!
Jim Dick OBE, Lord Lieutenant of East Riding of Yorkshire and a Founding Father of Bondholders

Bondholders and prominent figures from the organisation’s history recently gathered to celebrate the achievements of the past three decades and to discuss future aspirations.
Held at Stage@TheDock, attendees arrived under a vibrant balloon archway and enjoyed welcome drinks and an array of food, including fresh pizzas from Berts and delicious vegan burgers from Junk Soul Smothered.
The event began with 90s-themed music and entertainment by local magician Rich Reynolds. Attendees also explored the past 30 years through the Humber timeline and a memorabilia corner showcasing PR and recruitment guides, along with other historical Bondholders’ items.

2024 is the year we celebrate 30 years of Bondholders. Did you know that the Humber Bondholders scheme, launched in 1994, was the very first of its kind in the UK? The region is known for innovation and trailblazing and the Bondholders scheme is a perfect example of people coming together to make something remarkable happen.
In the 30 years since Bondholders was launched, the region has seen a lot of changes. With a rich industrial heritage, the city of Hull and the surrounding regions of East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire have seen their fair share of decline and rebirth.
