Welcome to the latest edition of The Humber Spotlight.
This week has been an extraordinary chapter for the Humber, reaffirming its role as a global leader in climate action, industrial innovation, and decarbonisation.
At the House of Lords, the Humber Energy Board launched Delivering the Vision, a strategy to attract over £15 billion in private investment, create thousands of skilled jobs, and drive sustainable growth across the region. The event showcased the Humber as a revolutionary force in the UK’s net-zero journey, underscoring the transformative power of partnerships between industry, government, and academia.
Over at the Aura Innovation Centre, The Waterline 2024 continued to spotlight the region’s remarkable contributions to tackling the climate emergency. Hosted by David Laister, Fred Marketing this year’s event celebrated the Humber’s resourceful ability to collaborate and innovate for a sustainable future. Highlights included an emphasis on inspiring the next generation, with STEM advocate Ruth Amos, Kids Invent Stuff delivering a keynote that underscored the importance of creativity, resilience, and role models in shaping future leaders. Contributions from industry voices like Rich Quelch, John Good Group and Chris Jackson, Hull City Council emphasised the Humber’s real potential to unite communities and organisations around a shared vision for decarbonisation and economic growth. After lunch, the spotlight then shifted to the Phillips 66 Sustainability Challenge, where students presented their innovative projects addressing real-world environmental issues. Congratulations to the winners: Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire and a huge well done to all the finalists who took part.
Due to be held on Tuesday 3rd December at Doubletree Hilton Hull, The Great Northern Conference will conclude the powerful series of regional events and conversations driving the Humber’s net-zero journey. Through keynote speeches from speakers including Juergen Maier, Chair GB Energy, panel discussions, and networking sessions, this event aims to spark meaningful conversations and actionable strategies that will drive the region’s economy forward.

On Wednesday 27th November 2024, the Humber cemented its position as a revolutionary leader in climate action and innovation during The Waterline 2024 at the Aura Innovation Centre in Hull. Since its inception in 2019, this flagship campaign has united businesses, academia, and communities to address the global climate emergency, showcasing the region’s remarkable strengths and resourceful potential to drive decarbonisation.
This year’s event focused on engaging the next generation in the net-zero agenda, exploring the Humber’s strategic importance in tackling climate change, and empowering attendees to lead a greener, more visionary future.
