Remarkable young leaders shape regional investment with Employment Minister

Centres to build employment skills for teenagers. A gym for under 16s. Campaigns to improve gender diversity in trade sectors.

These are just three of the bold ideas that aspiring leaders from Sirius Academy North presented to Dame Diana Johnson MP, Minister of State at the Department for Work and

Pensions, on how government funding could make a real difference for young people in our region.

Hull’s Orchard Park is one of three neighbourhoods in the city to benefit from new Pride in Place funding. Beginning this year, the neighbourhood will receive £20 million over 10 years for regeneration projects led by local people. Remarkable students from Sirius Academy North helped shape plans for this regional investment plans, during the event organised by Future Humber and regional education service Y Focused.

Sharing her vision for the investment. Sienna, 14, said, “It’s important for young people to have their voices heard because we’re part of the community too. A lot of the time we’re judged or not taken seriously, but we understand what’s going on around us and we care about where we live. If we get the right opportunities and investment, I genuinely think our future chances here are really strong. There are so many people from the region who have gone on to achieve great things, and there’s no reason why we can’t do the same.”

Humber flips the script

What happens when we stop talking Humber down and start hyping it up instead?

Young voices led bold, confident conversations like this to challenge perceptions of Humber at the region’s Flipping the Script event in June.

Students from Healing Academy and Sirius Academy North took a leading role in the film-inspired event, interviewing leaders and sharing their own views on our region’s future.

The event focused on Humber’s real ambition and opportunity as the economic engine room of the UK. Several of the region’s business and community leaders shared their personal stories in a celebration of the people, experiences and successes that collectively form Humber’s identity including

  • Ian Sharp, Founder of Sharp House and Revolution Talent and Co-Owner of Scunthorpe United,
  • Former England women’s football team player and Tigers Trust Mentor, Kaz Walker,
  • Katy Robinson current holder of the UK’s Most Influential Woman in Construction award and Senior Project Manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council,
  • Caine Wild, Managing Director, Wild Intervention.

The message is clear: Humber's future isn't something we're waiting for. It's being built by the people, ideas and ambition that’s already here.

Humber unites to drive region’s future

Humber’s role as a national engine of growth, and the importance of place promotion and a unified regional voice in realising our region’s ambitions, were the focus at the Leadership Exchange in May.

Over 60 senior leaders from across Humber’s private and public sectors joined forces to set the agenda for our region’s growth, investment and opportunity at the event.

Humber-place promotion and a united voice are two major priorities that senior leaders committed to advancing to secure the region’s powerful future. Other key areas of focus include enhancing physical connectivity, future-proofing skills, and investment and innovation.

Andrew Dawes, Chair of Future Humber, and Humber Director for ABP, said: “Humber is united on our region’s potential. And that potential is ready to be realised.

“By bringing leaders together, we’re building the momentum needed to accelerate delivery and unlock the full scale of opportunity. This is about aligning our purpose with what is right for our businesses and our communities, to move the conversations and our region forwards. The opportunity now is to turn that engagement into visible, coordinated action that delivers for our region, and the wider national economy.”

Humber's story is gaining momentum. Now we're creating the next generation of Place Brand assets that will help inspire talent, attract investment and build pride in our region for years to come.

We're looking for organisations to help bring two landmark assets to life: an emotive Humber Place film and an AI-powered Humber Place chatbot. Together, they'll help tell our story with authenticity, confidence and consistency.

This isn't traditional sponsorship. It's an opportunity to back shared regional infrastructure that will be used across business, education, investment and community settings, while demonstrating your organisation's commitment to Humber's long-term future.

If your organisation believes Humber's story matters, we'd love to hear from you.

A shared emotional story of place

The film is intended to capture the soul of Humber through the experiences of its people. Ambassadors want something that feels human, warm and honest and that challenges outdated perceptions while making local people proud.

Rather than scripted narration or polished visuals, the film focuses on storytelling, atmosphere and emotion. It reflects Humber as a place that is evolving, connected and shaped by everyday effort.

  • show real people and unscripted moments
  • balance grit, warmth and subtle pride
  • reflect both banks of the Humber equally
  • focus on values rather than slogans or logos

The AI chatbot is designed as a practical, human tool that helps people apply the Humber Place Brand confidently in real situations.

It responds to the need for guidance at the moment it is needed, rather than relying on static documents or formal manuals.

  • feel conversational, warm and encouraging
  • adapt guidance to different sectors and audiences
  • provide examples, prompts and reassurance
  • make the brand easier to use day to day
  • testing projects against the brand filter
  • developing campaigns or recruitment materials
  • writing press releases, bids or event messaging
  • understanding how the 4Rs apply in practice

Sponsorship positions your organisation as a backer of shared regional infrastructure, not just a participant in it. It’s a visible commitment to Humber’s long-term future, enabling the assets to be built properly, used widely, and have a long-lasting impact,

This is about influence, credibility, and alignment with Humber’s Place Narrative that will guide talent, investment, and perception for years to come.

This opportunity is for you if your organisation believes Humber’s story matters, understands the long-term value of place and wants to:

  • align your organisation with the four Humber values in a meaningful, practical way
  • contribute creatively to the development of the Place film or AI chatbot
  • strengthen your social value narrative through tangible regional impact
  • influence culture
  • be associated with work used across education, talent and investment settings
  • demonstrate leadership in backing something bigger than your own organisation
